The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and South Africa have pledged to accelerate the establishment of the Inga 3 hydroelectric plant.
At the end of the two days of discussions relating to this work, the authorities of the two countries announced that they wanted the materialization within the time limit of the electric dam. For this, they have planned the establishment of a timetable for the construction of the dam as well as a mechanism for mobilizing funding. An intergovernmental structure will also be set up with the task of assessing the progress of the works on a monthly basis. A joint management of the site was also decided, with the key, the involvement of the two national companies in charge of electricity that are the SENL (National Electricity Company) of the DRC and the ESKOM of Africa. from the South who will bring their expertise.
Located in the province of Kongo Central in the DRC, the dam will have a capacity of 4,700 MW in its first phase. Its cost has been estimated at $ 12 billion.
