London-based venture capital firm TLcom Capital has appointed Omobola Johnson, a former Nigerian telecommunications minister, to head its new office in Lagos, Nigeria.
TLcom Capital currently manages $ 300 million in capital focused on the development of startups operating in the technology and innovation fields. The Lagos office, opened two years ago through the TIDE Africa ICT Fund (technology and innovation for developing economies), is the second in the group after that of Nairobi.
The objective of this new office is to strengthen the group’s presence in West Africa and to support SMEs with high potential in the areas of e-commerce, energy, health and education. .
TLcom Capital justified the appointment of Johnson Omobola by his experience as a former minister. She also worked for 25 years for Accenture and is currently the Honorary President of the Alliance for Affordable Internet (A4AI).
