The American company IBM announced on March 09, 2016 the opening of its very first Datacenter in Africa. The commissioning of this infrastructure, based in Johannesbug, South Africa, was made possible thanks to IBM’s partnership with IT service company Gijma and mobile operator Vodacom.
In a press release, IBM stresses that this latest investment aims to provide African companies with the most advanced cloud services. “Customers will have access to IBM’s global data center network and the international expertise of its teams. They will also be able to manage their critical applications in secure cloud mode and access a set of services that will allow them to gain efficiency and operational costs, ”explains the company, which specializes in the fields of computer hardware, software and IT services. The new Datacenter strengthens IBM’s global network, which now has 46 centers across six continents.
Hamilton Ratshefola, the country representative for IBM South Africa, said that with this new Datacenter, the company “gives customers the additional flexibility of data retention in countries, which is a key differentiator for IBM ”
