On April 22, 2016, the Abidjan Transport Company (Sotra) put 26 minibuses with wireless Internet access into circulation in the commune of Cocody, east of Abidjan. According to the head of the Sotra communication service, reached by phone by oeildafrique.com, the entry into service of these vehicles is a test of their attractiveness in terms of cost and comfort. The test phase of these 26 minibuses will end on April 30, for their effective launch.
Called “Wibus”, these Sotra vehicles will serve four lines: lines 704, 705, 707 and 708, going from the Water Tower district to Blockhouse, explained the communications manager of Sotra. These cars will diversify the mode of urban transport in the municipality of Cocody, with a touch of modernity. They will offer more comfort than the common taxis commonly called “woro-woro”, at a reduced price. The Sotra bus trip costs 400 Fcf against 500 Fcfa for unmarked taxis. 71 other buses should be put into circulation in the commune at the end of the test phase.
For consumers, the “Wibus” will make it possible to save 100 Fcfa and to take advantage of his trip to check his emails, chat with friends or advance in his work before reaching his place of service or school. Over time, in addition to Wi-Fi, Sotra announces other innovations in its buses such as electronic payment systems, passenger information, etc.
