A new form of irrigation is currently expanding in East Africa. These are pumps towed by two-wheeled motorcycles to irrigate cultivated areas. Installed on a motorcycle, these pumps can function as sprinklers or be used to draw water from a well and fill a reservoir, in the case of drip irrigation.
This new irrigation method is very beneficial for small farmers in this region of the continent because, with just one liter of gasoline, this pump can push up to 40,000 liters of water at a height of 50 meters. . Very economical due to its low fuel consumption, compared to conventional diesel pumps, this pump is adopted by all small farmers. It is also used for other domestic purposes such as cleaning carpets, among others.
This innovation is an adequate solution to deal with the meteorological hazards that disrupt agricultural production. Now, even in the height of the dry season, farmers can meet the water needs of their different crops.
