The South African company “Bvutiselo group” intends to set up in the Congo to develop the “smart village”. this wish was expressed by the Director-Manager of this company, Dick Bvuma, after a working session with the Congolese Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and Digital Economy, Léon Juste Ibombo, on November 29 in Brazzaville.
During this working session, the Director-Manager of this company presented to the Minister in charge of the sector of the telecommunications and the digital economy the ambition of his company to be established in Congo. The idea of moving to Congo born of the participation of this company in a workshop on digital organized this year in Brazzaville by the Congolese government.
Appreciating the initiative, Dick Bvuma noted, “Today’s working session is to express our interest in working closely with the government to bring the smart village idea presented in this workshop into action. . ”
The delegation of this South African company, accompanied by the ambassador of South Africa to the Congo, Richard BALOYI, exposed to the Congolese minister his ambition to make way with the Congo to the development of smart villages.
For his part, the Congolese Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and the Digital Economy, building on the government’s vision of linking the Congo to the development of the digital economy, reassured its guests of all the possibilities and facilities that the Congolese side will put at their disposal to bring to fruition the idea of the installation of their company in the Congo.
In the end, the exchange between the South African Director-Manger and the Congolese Minister in charge of this sector focused on the strengths and benefits that the Congo will derive from this approach. A technological approach that will be an answer to the question of urban migration by making services come to the people and not the other way around.
A great first in the Congo, the particularity of these “smart villages” is to allow all the inhabitants to connect thanks to the new ICTs and to have access to both administrative services and e-health. A prospect that could be a source of inspiration for the Congo to fight the rural exodus and make the optical fiber deployed throughout the country profitable.
Once implemented in Congo, these “smart villages” will make local governments fully digitalized and will be spaces where all citizens will have a smart phone and will use ICT, receive services and information on their phones, use their phones to pay for products on the local market, will receive their pension or be paid by their phones, via internet.
Note that, the establishment of this South African company, partner of CISCO, is an undeniable asset for the Congo. Due to technology transfer, ICT capacity building and infrastructure cost-effectiveness, such as fiber optics. The digital economy sector can thus play its part in the process of diversification of the Congolese economy.
