Like the international community, Senegal is celebrating International Girls’ Day. For the occasion, an open day for schoolgirls in Dakar was organized at the Directorate of Autonomous Information Processing of the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Planning.

For Bitilokho Ndiaye, representative of the Minister of Telecommunications and Posts, the political will displayed by the state authorities to encourage girls in ICT is starting to bear fruit. This state of affairs is confirmed by the international firm Deloitte, which specializes in technological studies. Its results revealed that more than 31% of women will occupy positions in ICT while in developed countries, the average is around 25%.
The study also found more than 60% of women in the sector who say they do not feel any difference in treatment between them and men on technical matters. According to the firm Deloitte, obstacles remain, however, to be overcome, in particular a low representation of women in ICT training, problems in the process of recruiting and retaining female talents as well as the glass ceiling perceived in terms of compensation and professional development. ICTs, he says, play a major role in promoting the economic and social development of countries thanks to their cross-cutting nature. Cheikh T. Diop also urges young girls to be inspired by the example and experience of women computer engineers by choosing scientific series in order to consider higher studies in the field of ICT which certainly offer , certain perspectives because they are useful for all trades.
