Africa, Alibaba’s new hunting ground
China wants absolutely to be present on the African market. In recent years, many of its companies have spread their tentacles in many African countries. This is the case of Alibaba. To make it a reality, already in July 2018, Alibaba Business School and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) brought together 29 young entrepreneurs from 11 African countries on the Alibaba campus in Hangzhou, China. . The meeting was part of the third phase of the eFounders initiative.
Alibaba wants to help 1,000 entrepreneurs from developing countries including 200 from Africa in their capacity building. At the end of the program that will last 5 years, they will be able to succeed in the digital world
Last August, Alibaba Business School launched a Global E-Commerce Talent (GET) training program in Rwanda. It is intended for university professors who are supposed to train new talents. It is the result of a partnership with the Higher Education Council of Rwanda and the Rwanda Development Board. Courses in the digital economy, business training, risk management and customer acquisition were initially given to 50 participants from 9 universities across the country.
Jack Ma also launched “African Young Entrepreneurs Fund”, a $ 10 million fund from the personal fortune of the Chinese billionaire.
