Born June 27, 1961 (55 years old) in Gombe (north-eastern Nigeria) to a British mother and a Nigerian father, Amina J. Mohammed has more than thirty-five years of career. A pure product of the Nigerian and British schools, she began her career in 1981 with Archcon Nigeria, an architecture and engineering firm where she spent 10 years, participating in multiple school construction projects. and medical and public buildings.

A businesswoman in the arcana of power

In 1991, this mother of six founded the Afri-Projects Consortium, a multidisciplinary company also invested in engineering. To this project, she devotes another ten years of her life and continually goes up to the niche, to the point of being noticed by the highest authorities in place in Abuja. This is how she will assume, under three consecutive governments (Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan), the role of Special Adviser on the Millennium Development Goals. A position that has enabled him to make a significant contribution to the fight against poverty, reform of the public sector and sustainable development, and to coordinate programs with an annual budget of $ 1 billion in support of the achievement of these objectives.

Amina J. Mohammed took a step closer to the top in June 2012, when Ban Ki-Moon, then UN Secretary-General appointed her to his side as Special Adviser for Development Planning after 2015. This new position will allow her to contributing to the development of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. A decisive turning point in the career of this woman who has been at work in the fight against poverty, gender equality and education.

A year later, in 2013, the 50-year-old became involved in politics with the All Progressives Congress (APC), the political party created on February 6 which won the 2015 presidential election, with the election of Muhammadu Buhari as head of Nigeria. . Before joining the UN vice-presidency, she was Nigeria’s Minister of the Environment (November 2015-December 2016).
