Nigeria wants to become the first African country to send an astronaut into space by 2030. This objective is part of the ambition to develop the creation of an international space industry.
Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology, said: “Space is a major asset in which Nigeria must be involved in order to protect national interests.”
It is the National Agency for Development and Space Research of Nigeria (NASRDA) which deals with space missions and it has already, since 2003, launched five (5) satellites among which three (3) are still in orbit and ensure the delivery of vital services.
For Félix Ale, communications manager at NASRDA, this project will help energize various key sectors of the national economy and locate terrorist organizations like Boko Haram.
Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged that this program will move from simple ambition to reality.
