The Ivorian Minister for the Promotion of Youth and Youth Employment, Mamadou Toure, proceeded on Monday, the inauguration of a factory production of chicks at a cost of 2 billion FCFA (about 3.5 million $) in Azaguié, a town 40 km east of Abidjan in Côte d’Ivoire.
As a result of Ivorian-Dutch cooperation, this hatchery will enable 110 young Ivorians to benefit from a job, while contributing to “food safety in animal proteins, particularly through the supply of quality chicks for national poultry farming”.
“The hatchery we are opening is still the direct proof of the contribution of the private sector to the development of the poultry sector in Côte d’Ivoire,” said Mamadou Touré.
It should be noted that the poultry sector in Côte d’Ivoire has a turnover of around CFAF 250 billion (approximately $ 430 million), for a production of nearly 50 000 tonnes of poultry meat and just over 1.6 million tonnes of poultry meat. billion units of eggs for consumption. This corresponds to an offer of about 2 kg of meat and 67 eggs per capita.
In addition, the sector generates around 200,000 direct and indirect jobs.
