The Prime Minister of Cameroon, Philemon Yang, proceeds on June 14, 2016 on the campus of the University of Yaoundé I, to the inauguration of the first cinema and entertainment hall Canal Olympia built on the African continent.
This place of culture is the work of the Vivendi group, which is controlled by French industrialist Vincent Bolloré, who arrived in the Cameroonian capital on June 13, 2016 with members of Vivendi’s supervisory board.
The Canal Olympia room in Yaoundé, which should be duplicated in the city of Douala before the end of 2016, as we have learned from good sources, will allow in particular the screening of films, the organization of concerts local and international artists and hosting stand-up comedians.
In addition to ensuring the influence of young Cameroonian talents through the international network of the Vivendi group, the Canal Olympia hall in Yaoundé, which has a capacity of 300 seats inside and more than 4000 places outside. ; especially comes to put an end to 7 years of absence of cinemas in Cameroon, after the cinemas Abbia (Yaoundé) and Wouri (Douala) closed in January 2009.
Built in two months by the Cameroonian company Kalfrelec, this cinema and entertainment hall in which the Vivendi group has invested around 2.5 billion CFA francs, according to our sources, is entirely powered by solar energy. This energy is captured from 720 m2 of solar panels, then stored thanks to the Lithium Metal Polymer (LMP) batteries developed within the framework of the Bolloré Blue Solutions program; which already allows three electric buses to transport students to the campus of the University of Yaoundé I since May 2014.
