In order to support youth in ICT innovation and encourage their contribution to the economic development of Rwanda, the Ministry of Youth and Information and Communication Technologies is preparing a fund of nearly 73.2 billion Rwandan francs. ($ 99,712,807) to support ICT start-ups. Jean-Philibert Nsengimana (photo), the minister, said that the details around this fund, the largest the country has ever known in promoting ICT entrepreneurship, will be revealed at the Transform Africa summit to be held from October 19 to 21, 2015 in Kigali.
For a long time, local tech entrepreneurs who wanted to enter the information and communication technology market have always encountered a lack of funding to support them in their projects. Things are about to change drastically in a context where the Rwandan government places great hopes for the development of its economy in the ICT sector.
The Rwandan government’s calculation is simple: by encouraging ICT entrepreneurs, the youth employment problem will find a solution, and there are many innovative services using the Internet (Mobile Banking, transport, e-commerce, health, education , etc) which will multiply and inflate the GDP.
