For its fourth edition, the Paris Salon Viva Technology dedicated to innovation expands its system with the presence of 160 African start-ups.
In the wake of its “Africatech” operation last year, the Salon VivaTech will expand its coverage of this theme from May 16 to 18. “This operation will become regular and the momentum is growing,” said Maxime Baffert, co-director of the Salon co-organized by Publicis and “Les Echos”. Having learned in a frugal economic context, start-ups have the keys to develop in Western countries. And we already see early examples, such as Jumia, which should be listed on the Nasdaq this year. ”
A 100% African smartphone
The presence of African technology at VivaTech, in particular materialized by 160 start-ups, will therefore be divided into three locations: a lab where young shoots will be presented from all over the continent; country pavilions (Algeria, Mauritius, Democratic Republic of Congo …); and a cycle of lectures with many personalities like Jumia, the story of the first African unicorn or Ashish Thakkar. This British and Ugandan entrepreneur based in Kigali, Rwanda will present, in partnership with Google, the first smartphone totally manufactured in Africa.
