(New Gabon) – World Bank experts and representatives from the National Commission for Public Works for the Promotion of Entrepreneurship and Jobs (Tippee) last week assessed the state of Libreville of the Central Africa Backbone 4 (CAB4) project.
It emerged from this working session that over a length of 1,075 km, Gabon has already laid 350 km of optical fiber. The CAB4 project will allow Gabon to connect to the new ACE submarine cable, and to start construction of the land backbone as far as Franceville and the border with the Congo. For its effective implementation, the cost of the project is estimated at $ 109 million, of which 58 are financed by the World Bank and $ 51 million by the Gabonese Republic
With regard to Central Africa in general, the CAB project aims to increase the geographic coverage of high-bandwidth bandwidth networks and to reduce the costs of communications services in the territories of the Central African States and to support implementation of the third pillar of the Cemac Regional Economic Program 2010-2015, relating to the physical interconnection of its member countries (Cameroon, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, DR Congo, etc.).
