Fourteen men and women from the African continent appear in the 2016 edition of the Young Global Leaders 2016 list established by the World Economic Forum in Davos.

In this list which includes “121 people under 40, scientists, heads of government, future business leaders, social activists who shape politics, society and the world around them”, there are nine women and five men from eight African countries: two Nigerians, two Ghanaian, two Ugandan, two Kenyan, two South African, two Tunisian, one Moroccan and one Sudanese.

No personality from the CFA zone appears in this list.

Here are the 14 Young Global Leaders:

-Abayomi Awobokun (Nigeria): Managing Director of Oando Downstream, the first Nigerian fuel distribution company. This young man rose very quickly through the ranks in this company after having worked as a garbage collector in the United Kingdom.

-Muntaqa Umar-Sadiq (Nigeria): Managing Director of the Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria, a foundation that mobilizes funds from the business community to improve the provision of health care.

-Ada Osakwe (Ghana): Founder and Managing Director of Agrolay Ventures, a successful firm specializing in investing in the agribusiness sector in Africa.

-Farida Bedwei (photo, Ghana): co-founder of the flourishing fintech Software Ltd which produces mobile banking solutions.

-Christopher Ategeka (Uganda): Founder and Managing Director of Rides For Lives, a company specializing in the development of mobile health units that has already provided health care services to more than 500,000 people.

-Victor Ochen (Uganda): Executive Director of the African Youth Initiative Network, an NGO working in the field of war trauma management and the promotion of youth leadership. He was nominated for the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize.

-James Mworia (Kenya): Managing Director of the investment firm Centum Investment and youngest director of a listed company in East Africa.

-Juliana Rotich (Kenya): founder of the IT services company Ushahidi, which develops software that helps manage crises in real time by making this information accessible through an interactive map.

-Zukie Siyotula (South Africa): Managing Director of Thebe Investment Corporation

-Mary Vilakazi: (South Africa): CFO of the MMI Holdings Limited group

-Amira Yahyaoui (Tunisia): President of Al Bawsala, an NGO working in the field of improving governance and defending human rights

-Wafa Makhlouf (Tunisia): Managing Director of Proclean, a company which uses mechanized techniques to clean the beaches and collect household waste.

-Khadija Idrissi Janati (Morocco): founder of the company KMK Partners which appears in the ranking of 500 high-growth Arab companies published by All Growth Network.

-Nima Elbagir (Sudan): CNN International correspondent. She notably covered the refugee crisis in Sudan and the kidnapping of high school girls in Chibok by Boko Haram fundamentalists in northern Nigeria.

Globally, we find in the list of young leaders in particular a woman who is fighting to stop illegal organ trafficking, another who is in the field of recycling of radioactive waste from nuclear energy, a third who repel damaged human bones as well as one of the women elected to the parliament of Afghanistan and the deputy director of the Chinese National Commission for Development and Reform.
