If Africa is the cradle of humanity, Benin is, without a doubt, the cradle of African integration. This is at least the conclusion that can be drawn from the announcement made by the Beninese President, Patrice Talon this Monday, August 29, 2016 in Kigali in Rwanda where he is on an official visit.
“I have decided that Benin will no longer require visas from other Africans,” said Beninese President Patrice Talon. A decision which, according to some observers, is a strong signal in favor of African unity which is struggling to materialize on the continent. The first French-speaking country in Africa to open its borders to the entire African continent, Benin has just made history.
It should be noted that this decision by President Talon is certainly in line with his vision of positioning Benin on the tourist map of the continent. Indeed, President Talon has the dream of making Benin, rich in its untapped cultural and tourist resources, an industry that provides employment. President Talon has just set an important prerequisite for achieving his goals.
