The mobile telephony market in Malawi, already disputed between the telecommunications operators Airtel Malawi and Telecom Network Malawi (TNM), the mobile subsidiary of the incumbent operator Malawi Telecommunications Ltd (MTL), has just been enriched by a new competitor . This is Lacell Private Ltd. The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) has just awarded it a 10-year telecom license.
During the ceremony of presentation of this new mobile operator to the press, Godfrey Itaye, the director general of Macra, said that the country places great hopes in this new telecom operator. With a new operator, competition will increase on the market to the delight of consumers who will have a plurality of offers. “Competition is good, it is beneficial to consumers in the pix and the quality of service for which they will pay,” said Godfrey Itaye.
Malawi is a country of almost 13 million people with a telecom subscriber base of around 2 million people. For Lacell president Farook Satar, the company is ready to provide its services and promises international quality that will affect rural areas.
