Orange has just invested in Afrostream, a video-on-demand platform specializing in African, African-American, Afro-Caribbean television series and cinema. If the amount of the operation has not been communicated, the participation was made via the Orange Digital Ventures fund which invests in start-ups specializing in digital.
Pursue international development
Afrostream offers to watch movies and series in streaming from a computer, tablet or smartphone for 6.99 euros per month. Packages are also sold year-round and allow you to take advantage of the offer up to 4 connected screens.
“The future of television is through mobile. With this strategic investment from Orange, Afrostream now brings together the best of mobile internet and the best of Afro content. This unique alliance will allow us to revolutionize the entertainment industry and reach all audiences, “said Tonjé Bakang, CEO of Afrostream.
With this new investment, Afrostream also wants to continue its international development. Founded in 2013, the service is available in France, the French overseas departments and territories, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire.
For Orange, strengthening in content
In the past, the start-up had already been supported by Orange Fab France, a three-month accelerator, and had been selected by the Y Combinator, one of the largest American incubators. In addition, the start-up signed a partnership with TF1 in February to display an “Afrostream” tab on its VoD site.
Following its participation, Orange intends to support the start-up in its development, particularly in terms of networks but also distribution. “This investment is part of ODV’s logic of funding services capable of addressing several geographic areas in which the Group is present. It will allow us to develop the video on demand market, particularly in Africa, but also to enrich the content offer that we already offer to our customers in France, since Afrostream should be launched on Orange TV. by next summer, “said Pierre Louette, President of Orange Digital Ventures.
