Orange Middle East & Africa (Orange MEA) and the Virtual University of Senegal (UVS) have just signed a Partnership Agreement to provide concrete and immediate solutions to Africa’s great challenge of training millions of young people and professionals , especially in the digital professions.
The UVS is a public digital university whose pedagogical model is based on an innovative device to improve learning conditions for learners.
It has, in this sense, a national network of Open Digital Spaces (ENO), currently established in the main regional capitals of the country and eventually in each of the 45 departments. The NWE is at the same time a means of pedagogical supervision, a framework of socialization of the students and also a tool of development at the disposal of the local communities.
With nearly 28,000 students in the academic year 2018-2019, the UVS offers 25
Degree courses according to the Bachelor – Master – Doctorate (LMD) system, including courses such as applied mathematics and computer science, application development (web, mobile and gaming), multimedia, digital communication, graphic and digital arts.
According to Alioune Ndiaye, CEO of Orange MEA: “Only a significant numerical dimension will meet the growing need for training of young Africans.
The UVS has demonstrated the viability of a large scale online education model. We are proud to use our networks and our presence in 20 African countries to benefit the greatest number. ”
Professor Moussa Lo, coordinator of the UVS is delighted: “After launching the initial post-baccalaureate training in Senegal a few years ago, then very recently an offer of continuing education to professionals, we want to open to individuals and start our international development. This partnership with Orange is timely to accompany our approach. ”
Thus, the e-learning Pass proposed by Orange at a social rate allows a large public to access open access courses of several leading partners in online education, which is now part of the UVS. Already launched in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Burkina Faso, this Pass should be available in some fifteen countries within a year.
Another offer will offer both a mobile data pass of several GB and a training course of the UVS (online course, tutoring, evaluation, certification). It will allow a non-student population to train for periods of one to three months to find a job in innovative sectors of activity.
Sékou Dramé, Managing Director of Orange Sonatel says: “The UVS is the worldwide reference for online university education. As part of this agreement, we want to ensure that all Senegalese can benefit from their know-how. ”
In Senegal, the eLearning Pass will be available in the first quarter of 2019 and certifying online courses in the second semester.
