In Ghana, Ashanti king Otumfuo Osei Tutu II (photo) announced last week the launch of a development fund of over $ 100 million for the Ashanti community.
According to information relayed by several local media, the new fund is part of a development plan for the Ashanti region in Ghana. Spread over ten years, it is developed by several businessmen and women from the community, and aims to complement the efforts of the government to develop the region.
Several sectors are expected to benefit from planned investments under the new fund. By 2020, nearly $ 30 million should be mobilized to develop local projects in a region that is a strong source of cocoa and gold, two of the country’s main sources of exports.
Traditional leader of the Ashanti community, King Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is one of the traditional African rulers who have retained a certain prestige, despite the presence of a central state. It should be noted that the 68-year-old sovereign has been at the head of the community since 1999.
