The Presidency of the Republic of Egypt announced the launch on November 14, 2015 of the project entitled “The Egyptian Data Bank”. It is the result of a request made in March 2015 by the Head of State Abdel Fattah El Sissi (photo), which led to negotiations between the Specialist Council for Education and Scientific Research, and several publishers of the whole world.
Ultimately, “the Egyptian Data Bank” will be the largest digital library in the world. It will be made up of the world’s largest publishing houses, such as Springer-Nature, National Geographic, Discovery, Aassador, Cambridge, Oxford, Britannica, Emerald, Thomson Reuters, as well as dozens of publishers.
The Egyptian Data Bank will house scientific periodicals in various fields: electronic books and magazines, educational programs for schools and universities, databases, search engines, digital libraries for videos and photos, as well as electronic programs in the fields of sport…
Agreements were signed on November 12, 2015 for the immediate start of construction of the Bank’s digital infrastructure. The technical work should last 8 weeks.
