On the initiative of the General Confederation of Businesses of Côte d’Ivoire (CGECI), took place this Thursday at the party room of the Sofitel Hôtel Ivoire, as part of the International Conference on the Emergence of Africa ( CIEA) a panel on the financing of female entrepreneurship.
In the introduction, the Minister of Planning and Development, Kaba Nialé affirmed that “it has become obvious that the representativeness of women in decision-making circles and in formal activities must be improved”. Because the minister continued, “women are 50% of intelligence that must accompany the development of states”. She praised the initiative of this panel, which addresses an extremely important issue in the race towards emergence.
Yvonne Bosso, the Director of the Cabinet of the Minister for Women, Child Protection and Solidarity, considered that “this panel is the expression of the awareness by women of their role in the development of their country. “. For Yvonne Bosso, the holding of this panel demonstrates the capacity of women to contribute to the development of African states. “The emergence of our states cannot take place without the specific pillar of women,” she said. Financing female entrepreneurship is a challenge that states must take into account in their development, said Minister Mariatou Koné’s Chief of Staff. “Entrepreneurship requires qualities. It is a matter of daring, of shaking up habits that are firmly anchored in manners. The woman who aspires to be an entrepreneur must face the challenge of financing. The emergence of Africa cannot be achieved without the full participation of women in general and women entrepreneurs in particular, ”concluded Yvonne Bosso.
The Vice-President of CGECI, in charge of female entrepreneurship, Touré Massogbê recalled that women are full of skills and ideas, but was she surprised that with equal competence, income is not the same between men and women. “Women entrepreneurs just want empowerment,” she said. Regarding banks and financing structures, she called for an overall innovative mechanism for financing female entrepreneurship to be defined. “Women are the engine of development,” said Touré Massogbê. She cites as proof of this the significant turnover mobilized by 66% of women working in the Ivorian informal sector.
In response to the concerns of women entrepreneurs about the financing of their activities, the Managing Director of UBA Côte d’Ivoire, Sarata Koné wanted to be frank. Financing an SME requires guarantees. To finance a business there is a framework, said Sarata Koné. To ensure success in putting together a fundraising case, the CEO of UBA has advised female entrepreneurs to be forward-thinking in their activities, to move forward and to think big. Women entrepreneurs should present a solid project and give themselves the means to grow the business. Sarata Koné recalled the policy of the institution she heads based on Afro capitalism, that is to say the development of Africa by Africans with an African approach.
This Panel saw the participation of hundreds of women from different sectors of activity and ten African countries.
