The Mauritius Ministry of Technology, Communication & Innovation (TCI) officially announced on May 05, 2017 the opening of registrations for participation in the fifth edition of the annual meeting of website creation enthusiasts in the Indian Ocean, called WebCup. An event that will be held from May 20 to 21, 2017 at BPML CyberTower1 in Cybercité, Ebène.

For this 5th edition, TCI announces that it has partnered with institutions representing the private ICT sector in Mauritius, OTAM, MITIA and CCIFM, for the organization of this WebCup. The WebCup is an initiative of the Webcup de la Réunion association. It is a competition that lasts 24 hours non-stop where the candidate teams (amateurs & professionals) create a website. The Webcup is held the same day, at the same time, with the same subject in Madagascar, Mayotte, Reunion, the Union of the Comoros, Seychelles, Rodrigues and Mauritius, during the weekend from 20 to 21 May 2017.

According to a statement from TCI, there is something new in the organization of the competition this year. In the new competition format, the jury will no longer judge the site in five minutes, but will have several days to do so. Also, the WebCup now takes place in two stages: an intense weekend of coding and creativity, and an awards ceremony a few days later.
Subject kept secret

On Saturday May 20 at 12 noon, the subject of the competition, hitherto kept secret, will be unveiled at the same time on all the islands. At the end of the 24 hours, the teams submit their creation and a video presentation.
In the days that follow, their projects are evaluated online by a jury panel, mainly web professionals.

At the end of this round, the team which wins the Grand Jury Prize on each island (1st prize) represents its territory at the “International Webcup Final” at the end of the year and organized in one of the territories. participants.

For the Minister of ICT, the Hon. Yogida Sawmynaden, “The Webcup is now an annual gathering that attracts a lot of computer enthusiasts. My ministry therefore gives all its support to initiatives allowing young people to discover new technologies and robotics, in a fun way. Participation in such events, whether for individuals or for students, is a real asset in terms of their CV, because a certificate of participation is given to candidates ”. The Minister thus encourages young people and students to promote their talents and know-how by participating in this WebCup.
