Ghana, a country for women entrepreneurs!

For about 20 years, the government of Ghana has made a decision that today has palpable consequences for the Ghanaian economy. This decision consisted in making education and in particular, the education of women, a priority axis of development. A decision that was not in vain when we see today that Ghana, a country for women entrepreneurs, is becoming real.

What environment in Ghana?
According to the Mastercard index of female entrepreneurship, Ghana leads with a rate of 46% of businesses owned by women. Their role is therefore significant since they represent 51% of the country’s population. Ghana is then a country which inscribes in its collective unconscious the importance of female leadership. Nana Akufo-Addo, Ghanaian president reportedly said: “Whether in the agribusiness sector, creative art, textiles, manufacturing to clothing design or in the finance and trade sectors , Ghanaian women play a key role in the entrepreneurial landscape, as evidenced by the latest figures from the National Council for Small and Medium Industries (PMI). According to these figures, 44% of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are owned by women ”. These remarks attest to the institutional character of the development strategy by female leadership in Ghana. Leadership that does not limit itself to defined sectors such as in certain countries where the latter is clearly identified in certain fields. Thus, the plurality of sectors cited by the President attests to the unlimited nature of this leadership, a vector of development and creation of economic activities in Ghana.

A fine example of entrepreneurial logic in Ghana
Osafo-Addo owns an agrifood processing company called Samba Food. This woman is an anesthesiologist by training but did not hesitate, in 1993 to perfect her structure. This woman is a fine example of entrepreneurial logic in Ghana and many other countries. Thus, one of the biggest challenges in Africa would be the establishment of diploma training programs that correspond to the needs of the market. Pending this restructuring, young people, women, men and entrepreneurs do not hesitate to retrain or to draw on skills from their training to progress in another sector. This is the case of Osafo Addo who did not hesitate according to the opportunities that presented themselves to him, to undertake in agro-business.

The Ghanaian president announced: “Our educational reforms also take into account the increase in technical and vocational training structures, which will benefit our young girls by equipping them with the skills necessary for building a modern economy. “. Relative to education, the enrollment rate of girls has risen from 16% in the 1970s to almost 80 percent today. An evolution that will grow and that is in favor of the economic development of Ghana. However, is not this “vision-strategy” of the government the beginning of a form of institutional exclusion from other genders and social classes?
