(Agence Ecofin) – Facebook, through the Chang Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI), the foundation opened in 2015 by the founder of the social network and his wife Priscilla Chang, has granted the start-up $ 24 million in funding African Andela, present in Lagos (Nigeria) and Nairobi (Kenya). The funds are intended to support this African company in training more ICT engineers on the continent. According to Forbes, the start-up Andela has trained less than 200 ICT engineers in two years of existence, while the number of training requests it receives is 40,000.
According to Jeremy Johnson, co-founder of the start-up Andela with the Nigerian Iyin Aboyeji, the objective of this funding intended to boost the training of ICT engineers in Africa is “to cultivate the next generation of founders and directors techniques of large companies across Africa. “ Mark Zuckerberg (photo) said that being trained in ICT, a large number of Africans will be more likely to find a job. He said, “We live in a world where talent is distributed fairly, but opportunities are not. Andela’s mission is to put an end to this imbalance. “
With the funding received from Facebook, Andela is already planning to expand its presence on the continent, through the opening, in a third African country, of a new pole of training for ICT engineers, by the end of l ‘year. This expansion will allow it to also revise upwards the number of people to be trained.
