A chemistry professor has developed a revolutionary coating. It is obtained from landfills in large cities.

Plastic roads. The idea can make you smile, but it is very real. This road is located in the city of New Delhi in India. At first glance, this road is a road like any other, yet it contains 10% recycled plastic. For users, it’s hard to believe. “Plastic, not bitumen,” said one of them at the microphone of France 2.

Precise dosage

Rajagopalan Vasudevan, engineer and chemist, made this route. For him, on the contrary, the difference is obvious. “You can see here, it’s very solid, the road is still intact seven / eight years after its construction. The edges are not damaged. When vehicles pass on a road, the edges are eroded, but not in this case. This proves the solidity of the road and it will last several more years, “said the engineer.

With plastic, water infiltrates less, the coating is more resistant and in addition it is cheaper. It all started with a shock. In India, 15,000 tonnes of plastic are thrown away every day. Rajagopalan Vasudevan explored how to turn the problem into a solution. In his laboratory, the professor develops a recipe. It took 40 attempts to find the precise dosage of plastic to incorporate into the bitumen and gravel.

CEO AfrikaTech

Rejoignez-nous ! LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/boubacardiallo
