Rwanda has taken up the challenge of innovating in digital technologies to fight underemployment among young people. Kigali announced, last October, during the “Transform Africa” summit held from October 19 to 21, 2015, the establishment of a fund to encourage and support entrepreneurship in the ICT field.
With just under 100 million euros (more than 65 billion CFA francs, note), this fund is simply the largest the country has ever known for the promotion of ICT entrepreneurship, according to AfriqueTechnologies.com.
The news site also reports that the Rwandan government’s calculation consists in boosting the country’s ICT entrepreneurship movement in order to remedy the unemployment problem on the one hand and inflate the GDP by the many innovative services which are offered by digital entrepreneurs who touch both mobile banking and e-commerce, including health and education, among others.
Entrepreneurs who invest in digital in Rwanda have regularly complained about the lack of funding to support their projects.
