(Business in Cameroon) – As part of the “Special Youth Plan” prescribed by the Cameroonian President, Paul Biya, on February 10, 2016, the Minister of Higher Education, Jacques Fame Ndongo, is proceeding this July 27 in Yaoundé, with the Chinese company Sichuan Telécom Construction Engeneering Co. Ltd, at the signing of an agreement called, “e-national higher education”, intended to generalize the use of ICT by Cameroonian students.
Through this program, explains Jacques Fame Ndongo, Paul Biya decided to implement the “a student a computer” project by granting a free laptop to each student enrolled in a public or private university institution in Cameroon. “This is a presidential and one-off operation aimed at providing 500,000 Cameroonian students with appropriate IT tools to link them to the university digital economy,” said Minesup. This “computer donation” component only concerns the 2016-2017 academic year.
In addition, thanks to the “e-national higher education” program, each state university, including the Cameroon-Congo inter-state university in Sangmelima, will have an ultra modern university digital development center intended to provide a decisive impetus for distance education, the digitization of university administration, collaborative work in a network and the secure interconnection of public and private universities in Cameroon. The financial impact is 75 billion FCFA.
