Dakar residents know that crossing Dakar is an art and a technique since danger can come from anywhere. However, it didn’t take much to awaken the creativity of Ousseynou Khadim Beye and create a mobile game application: The Cross Dakar City.

The object of the game is to accompany Mamadou, a talibé, through the streets of Dakar so that he can find his biological parents.

Games
The game has 16 levels (I’m at the 9th level). The principle is to cross roads, rivers and forests while avoiding obstacles such as cars, taxis, fast cars, Dakar Dem Dik, carts, bombs and bushes. Throughout the crossing you can save time and extra “lives”.

The graphic design, the animations and the general 2D aesthetic are quite basic and essentialist. The whole is very refined with no frills. So much for the brief description of the game.

Personally, I am not a games addict. The last games I have played are Mario and Tetris on the gameboy! However, I enjoyed the game because I took the mission very seriously: We must save the talibé Mamadou! In reality, I especially liked the game because it is a mobile game made in Africa (Afrochauvinism when you hold us !!)

To situate Cross Dakar City in a broader perspective of the global ICT industry, the video and mobile games sub-industry should be followed very closely even if it is still in its infancy in Africa. The video game industry weighs between 60 and 70 billion dollars in the world and the share of the African continent is still insignificant but I am ready to bet that the next 10 years, the game industry in Africa will hatch and generate a considerable income.

The International Game Developers Association (IGDA) is a flagship institution in the field, and its primary objective was to defend the interests of game developers before the United States Congress. IGDA now has 4 offices in Africa (Nigeria, Senegal, Ghana and South Africa) and is preparing to open offices in Madagascar, Cameroon and Kenya.

To map African leaders in this area a little, we can cite Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya. On the French-speaking side, there is Morocco and Cameroon with in particular Aurion: the legacy of the Kori-Odan of Kiro’o Games. In 2015, Kiro’o Games raised more than 50,000 Euros to finance the game in 2015 and we wish it great success!

CEO AfrikaTech

Rejoignez-nous ! LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/boubacardiallo
