(Agence Ecofin) – The computer company Microsoft and Ecobank Transnational Incorporated, parent company of the pan-African bank Ecobank, announced on January 23, 2017 the signing of a memorandum of understanding to support the efforts of African governments in the transformation of their cities in cyber-cities.
The priority sectors that will be affected by this digital modernization of African cities will be education, trade, transport documents such as driving licenses, passports and visas, land, municipal taxes, health.
Microsoft and Ecobank’s support to African governments in the digital transformation of their cities will also include the implementation of a comprehensive digital skills and literacy program.
For the effective modernization of the social sectors targeted by digitization, the partners indicate that they “will collaborate in the sharing of best practices and technical advice for the benefit of officials or citizens who will regularly use the applications”.
