In Nigeria, the agriculture reality show announced by the International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA) and the International Farmers Association (CFIL) in 2015 will begin next month. In this context, the two entities joined forces with the Tony Elumelu foundation.
According to Akin Alabi, co-founder of CFIL, the program, which will bring together a total of 20 participants, aims to show the potential of young Nigerians in the agricultural sector in addition to changing the perception of the problems encountered in the agri-food industry by general.
Meanwhile, Yukio Yamamoto, head of IITA, says the show is expected to draw investors’ attention to the Nigerian and African agricultural sector.
“In a context where the executive wants to diversify the economy, this show will highlight the talent of young Nigerians active in the agricultural sector. We decided to partner with the Tony Elumelu Foundation because we want to create a standard with entrepreneurs operating in the agri-food sector; this in order to show young people that this sector can also contribute to the development of Africa. The show will run for four weeks at IATI’s premises in Ibadan, “Alabi said.
According to him, the project will be taken up in several countries in Africa, Asia and around the world.
“The best part about this show is that everyone involved will benefit from it. They will not receive any cash as a reward, but will leave with knowledge of the agricultural value chains of their choice, ”the official added. However, the best three or four participants will be selected to receive specialized training abroad.
