The Nigerian Olufemi Odeleye invented, in 2016, the Tryctor, a mini-tractor that will make small farmers smile again. Indeed, getting a tractor requires a certain investment, not to mention the maintenance of the machine which can be excessively expensive. Most of the time, only farm owners can afford it. But with the Tryctor, all types of operators can have a tractor at a lower cost.
Odeleye’s tractor was created from a motorcycle. Its inventor added to this machine two tractor wheels on the sides and attached various agricultural implements (used to plow the soil). All of the materials used to make the tractor, other than the motorcycle, were purchased on the local market. The Tryctor can do work similar to that of a conventional tractor, but on a smaller scale. Also easier to use and much cheaper, it is also cheaper to maintain since 60% of its parts are available locally. The Tryctor was chosen from among the inventions nominated for the 2016 African Innovation Prize.
