Entitled “Africa Prosperity Report 2016”, the study ranks 38 African countries according to the prosperity that reigns there. South Africa remains the most prosperous African country in Africa, according to this report released on June 1 by the London think tank Legatum Institute.

Legatum Institute establishes its classification based on the levels of GDP per capita as well as on 89 factors which it groups into eight main categories: the economy, the presence of entrepreneurship opportunities, governance, education, health , security, personal freedom and finally social capital. The category “personal freedom” includes, among others, freedom of expression and conscience as well as tolerance towards minorities.

Although it currently occupies only the rank of 3rd economic power of the continent behind Nigeria and Egypt, the rainbow nation owes its supremacy in prosperity to its good performances in the categories of education, social capital , health, governance, presence of entrepreneurship opportunities and personal freedom. The continent’s most industrialized economy, however, achieved average performance in the economic fields with a score of 12 points and security with a score of 19 points. The greater the number of points awarded, the more problematic the category for the country.

Botswana is the second most prosperous country on the continent, and it is the education, governance, entrepreneurial opportunity, security and personal freedom categories that have pulled this country up.

Morocco ranks third in this ranking ahead of Namibia, Algeria, Tunisia, Senegal, Rwanda and Ghana. Burkina Faso closes the Top 10.

(See the ranking of the 38 African countries studied below).

Legatum Institute stresses that Rwanda has made the strongest progress compared to the previous edition of the ranking thanks in particular to the reforms launched in the field of strengthening the rule of law and the fight against corruption.

Senegal and Burkina Faso also made good progress due to the improvement in their performance in the areas of personal freedom and governance.

CEO AfrikaTech

Rejoignez-nous ! LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/boubacardiallo
