Roland Sawadogo is a young law student at Ouaga 2 University. But it is not only that: he opened Som Service in 2015 and already employs five other students in this company. However, he tells us that he had no other financial support than the FONER (National Fund for Education and Research), granted to certain students. Burkina 24 wanted to know more in this interview.

Burkina24 (B24): Who is Roland Sawadogo?

Roland Sawadogo (RS): I’m SAWADOGO Roland, entrepreneur and 24-year business law student at Ouaga 2 University, with Nigerian Aliko Dangote as a reference. Trained in several areas such as secretarial, design of models, calligraphy-screen printing, IT, maintenance, sales techniques etc., I am responsible for Som Service which is only a progressive achievement of ” a dream of a child fed since 2011 and which did not start until 2015.

B24: Give us a description of your business.

RS: Som Service is a company classified in the category of companies providing services and supplies. Som is short for my name ‘’ ’botanical’ ’Somwaogo which literally means‘ ’recognition’ ’. Our slogan is: “Daily Satisfaction”.

Our company is registered in the commercial register and the mortgage (RCCM) since 2015. We are currently located at the south side of the wall of the university of Ouagadougou (UFR / SEG), behind the presidency of the said university and not far from the former residence of François Compaoré.

We offer service from 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. You can reach me at (+226) 73 29 22 11 or by email at swrolan87@yahoo.fr.

B24: What services do you offer?

RS: Som Service offers a multiple range of services that can be classified essentially into six sections which are as follows: first, the public secretariat section, then the design section, where we offer several types of designs. Among other things, we have business cards, badges, posters, notebooks, invoices and receipts. In partnership with other structures, we design websites, calendars, t-shirts, banners, etc.

There is the computer maintenance section. There we install operating system and application systems (software), antivirus, systems cleaning.

Som Service has within it a training firm which methodically and organized delivers individual or collective training in several areas. As training to offer, we should note training in IT, leadership, marketing, personal development, communication and sales techniques.

We also have a Cyber Café section. The peculiarity with us is that the cyber does not have computers, but it is the customers who come with their laptops, their tablets and phones to connect to our wifi network SOM_SERVICE. Please note that the Wi-Fi available to all customers is currently free during our opening hours.

Finally, the general sales section is one of the large sections of Som Service. It includes the sale of several office items and supplies as well as school supplies. We also offer Airtel money transfer, the sale of units from all networks.

B24: What is your particularity?

RS: The particularity of Som Service can be analyzed on several elements. First of all, it should be noted that this is not just a public secretariat, our service offers various ranges of service with unparalleled quality and speed.

Then, it should be emphasized that Som Service is made up of a staff of young, dynamic and enthusiastic students who love what they do and therefore are able to often work late hours for customer satisfaction. .

Finally, it should be remembered that the quest for the satisfaction of our customers means that we provide them with advice on various elements, free explanations on the BA of IT, some experience sharing and legal advice.

Also the partnership that we develop with the various structures and associations allows them to better manage their balance sheet accounts by a payment at the end of the month for their various services performed during the month. In addition, it also allows them to benefit from discounts of up to 15%.

B24: How do you manage to combine studies and business?

RS: To put it simply, from my personal development training I quickly understood something that many of my comrades refuse to understand. Indeed, the studies we do must allow us to reach our goal, therefore we must no longer have both feet at school; “One leg in the school, and other leg in the business” said a prominent Beninese coach. In short, school is not an end in itself but a means.

To get there, you need additional work (2 K Pi as the students say), trips here and there.

B24: Did you receive external financial support to start your activities?

RS: From the outset, it should be noted that the Foner can help build a successful business. A lot of the students I belong to are doing it and it works for them. Financial support is not essential to start a business. I think you need a mature idea and basic training in it. Such modules are part of our training.

When I started, I gathered the material gradually. The proof is that I started with a computer and in less than seven months of operation, I was five computers with other more efficient equipment.

B24: What are your projects?

RS: Several projects are underway. This involves, among other things, the establishment of a center for the production of laundry soap, but especially of toilet soap, which fights against some of our diseases. The start of production is scheduled for August 2016.

We are in the process of setting up a help desk for the preparation of tender documents for the various companies.
