Dakar, Sept 21 (APS) – Gaindev, the youngest team in the first 55H of the innovathon de la Francophonie in Dakar, won first prize in the competition with its application called Eco-n’homme, which allows waste sorting, recovery and processing system, noted the APS.

The eight members of the jury chaired by the director of the digital Francophonie, Eric Adja, deliberated on Sunday evening after 55 hours of competition in the premises of the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development. These ultimately resulted in the selection of 14 projects out of 400 registrations since September 17.

The Gaindev group, the youngest of which is only 17 years old and the oldest 22 years of age, through its Eco-n’homme solution, won over the members of the jury with the presentation of an “ intelligent bin ” charged with sort household waste, which they want to install in the districts of Dakar,

This system will be accompanied by a web platform with the mobile application that will translate Wolof into French and vice versa, to draw the attention of Senegalese to the urgency of good management of household waste.

This solution will be “a little click for man but a big click for mother nature”, explained the members of the Gaindev team during their presentation.

Gaindev’s project was rewarded with an envelope of 8,000 euros (just over 5 million FCFA) and the opportunity to present the project to the Paris Climate Conference (COP21) scheduled for next December.

The second prize in the amount of 4000 euros 2.6 million francs) was won by the only female team member of the Kaay Jang association which developed the project ” Na Set ” which is an application which allows notify urban waste collection programs by subscribers.

The third and last prize of 3000 euros (around 2 million francs) is awarded to the solution “Disoo” responsible for implementing a green market where applicants will meet the suppliers of materials.

According to Arame Diaw, coordinator of the 55H program, the objective of this competition for young developers is to ensure that ” La Francophonie presents responses to this COP21 with solutions provided by young people living in the countries concerned ” .

She also praised ‘’ all the creativity of the Senegalese youth ’qualifying‘ ’extraordinary’ ’the various projects presented.

Karim Sy, director of Jokkolabs welcomed female participation with 15%, a rate higher than that of Benin.

For her part, Sophie Touré from the Green Finance and Partnerships Department of the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development assured that the three winning projects will benefit from “support and monitoring” over one year, in partnership with the National Waste Management Program (PNGD).

After the stage in Benin and Senegal, the 55H program of the Innovathon on the theme of the environment, initiated by the Francophone Fund for Digital Innovation (FFIN), will go to meet Gabon, Haiti and Morocco.
