Global Fire Power is an American site which publishes specific publications in the field of defense. It has published military statistics on the countries of the world for many years. The military strength of each state is examined by the site’s experts. This assessment is based on the study of several parameters summarized in eight main sections:
- Logistics infrastructures: passable airports, coverage of road and rail networks, ports and terminals
Geography: State area, waterways
- Natural resources: availability of fuel to supply the armed forces, oil production and hydrocarbon reserves
- The human resource: population of the State, number of armed forces, those who are active and those in reserve
- Air force: planes, helicopters and other air defense devices
- The naval force: submarines, aircraft carriers and other devices
- The army deployed on the ground: missiles on the ground, tanks and other artillery
- Finances: budget allocated to the defense forces, external debt, etc.
- Military power is assessed in terms of the Power Index 0.0000 score. A score close to 0 reveals a strong military power.

The top of the rankings is occupied by Egypt with a score or index of 0.1872. The country has approximately 99.5 million inhabitants with an area of 1,001,450 km2. The Egyptian state is allocating an estimated $ 11.20 billion budget for defense. The strength of its army is estimated at 920,000 soldiers, or 440,000 active and 480,000 in reserve. The third position is occupied by South Africa which has an index of 0.4985. The South African population is estimated at around 55.5 million inhabitants for an area of 1,219,090 km2. The defense budget is $ 4.28 billion. The army has 81,300 soldiers for 15,000 reserves and 66,300 who are active. The air force is heavy with 226 devices. The force deployed on the ground is made up of 195 tanks, 2,000 armored vehicles, 72 towed artillery, 43 self-propelled artillery, 50 missile launchers. The naval force is made up of 3 submarines, 31 patrol boats, 4 frigates, 2 minesweepers.
