Good news for African developers. Facebook launched the Internet.org innovation challenge in Africa to honor developers and entrepreneurs who use the Internet to improve the education and economic health of their communities. Developers from across Africa are invited to take part in this challenge.
According to a press release received at Socialnetlink.org Facebook will award a reward of 150,000 US dollars (about 137,000 euros) to the application, website or service considered to be the best of one of the two following categories: empowerment at the educational / learning level and at the economic level. Each of the winners of this innovation challenge will also receive a set of tools and services worth $ 60,000 (approximately € 55,000) through Facebook’s FbStart program. Two apps, websites or services in each category will receive an award for the Impact award in the amount of $ 50,000 (approximately € 46,000).

This competition builds on the success of the Internet.org innovation challenge in India, an award designed to recognize those working to improve the relevance of the Internet for women, students, peasants and migrant workers in India. . The competition in detail
The competition is open to developers of applications, websites and online services providing real added value to African communities in each of the following areas:
Learning / education (applications, websites or online services using technology to stimulate learning and disseminate knowledge)
Economic empowerment (applications, websites and online services designed to develop the economic strength and capacities of communities)
Interested developers must register before May 1, 2016. Winners will be announced in August / September 2016.
