The African Renaissance monument hosted a conference on Saturday, October 17, 2015 on the theme: thème Digital in Africa ’. It was an opportunity for the speakers to recall the role of digital publishing on the continent. The meeting was organized by Éditions Diasporas Noires, in collaboration with LEGS / Afrique (Leadership, Ethics, Governance, Strategy for Africa) and Librairie Athéna.
The digital book is an opportunity for Africa. This is the opinion of Hulo Guilabert, director of Éditions Diasporas Noires. “You have to do with the internet. The planet, the culture, the humanity are today within the reach of all. The web is a large catalog (…) The digital book is an opportunity, it will allow us to store our memory. With digital, the book is dematerialized and Africa must not ignore this dynamic, “she argued.
The Internet, according to Hulo Guillabert, is as big a revolution as the printing industry. She recalled the existence of global libraries, accessible on the web without limits. And despite some obstacles for Africans, who often find it difficult to buy online, digital publishing is much cheaper. Especially since the continent is terribly lacking in means to democratize culture, explains the editor.
