A network of entrepreneurs organizes a day of celebration of African women’s innovation.
According to the BBC, sub-Saharan Africa is the region of the world where the rate of women entrepreneurs is highest. But, despite their dynamism, they represent only 12.7% of corporate executives in the twelve countries concerned. To shake up the established order, She Leads Africa (SLA) is an organization that gives a boost to all those whose creativity energizes the continent’s economy.
Yasmin Belo-Osagie and Afua Osei are both African-American. Born in Boston and Washington respectively, they met in Nigeria in 2014. Together, they decided to create an online platform that connects African women who want to embark on entrepreneurship. Launched two years ago, She Leads Africa today counts more than 30,000 members, to whom the organization offers daily advice, training and events.
One of the major events organized by SLA is Slay, a festival dedicated to celebrating innovation, culture, new technologies and entrepreneurship carried by African women, during a day of conferences, concerts and events. workshops. In 2017, more than 1,500 women participated.
With this success, the festival returns this year on February 17 in Lagos, Nigeria, in partnership with Konbini. A new opportunity for all exhibitors to unveil their projects, meet each other and promote their actions. And considering the atmosphere there was last year, we would like to take a ride.
