(newspress.fr) March 27, During a competition organized by the Regional Universities Forum for Agricultural Capacity Building (RUFORUM), the innovations of eleven young Rwandan entrepreneurs distinguished for their ability to provide solutions to the challenges of agriculture in Africa, were selected.
RUFORUM is a network of 66 universities in 26 African countries.
The first competition named “African Young Entrepreneurs Competition Series 2016” attracted a total of 756 applicants from Africa.
This network aims to create a dynamic agricultural sector linked to African universities, which can train renowned graduates in the field of research.These higher education institutions must thus respond to the demands of African farmers through innovations that can generate sustainable livelihoods and contribute to national economic development.
This competition invited young African innovators, entrepreneurs and incubators under the age of 40, to present innovative business ideas, companies and innovations.
Eleven Rwandans were among the top 140 innovators and their innovations cut across several areas of intervention in the agricultural sector. Here are a few examples:
“Severe Weather Consult Ltd” belonging to Gilbert Mwangi was selected. It focuses on the development of quality, durable and easily accessible weather products.
