According to the report titled “Sub-Saharan Africa OTT TV & Video Forecasts”, the subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) industry will contribute 74% of OTT TV revenues. Digital TV Research also predicts that the number of subscriptions to VOD in sub-Saharan Africa will reach 10.12 million. In 2016, there were 525,000.

South Africa, with 2.70 million subscriptions, will remain the leader in SVOD in sub-Saharan Africa in 2022, according to the report’s forecasts. The rainbow nation will be followed by Nigeria which will register 2.64 million subscriptions.

OTT TV refers to audiovisual services accessible directly via the Internet. The audiovisual content is broadcast via the network infrastructure of the Internet service provider (ISP) used, without however being integrated into the latter’s audiovisual services platform.
