PK Fokam Awards for Science and Technology. This is the African award officially launched on June 7, 2016 in Yaoundé by the Cameroonian banker Paul Kammogne Fokam, with the aim of promoting applied research in Africa and innovation in entrepreneurship. The announcement was made at the 3rd edition of the PK Fokam Institute for Excellence International Science and Technology Conference.

The competition, the results of the first edition of which will be published in June 2017, will reward Africans who submit the best innovations in business projects and the best Africans in applied research to the jury every two years. In the first category, the author of the best business project will receive an envelope of 10 million CFA francs, as well as the financing of his business plan; while the recipient of the 2nd prize will receive 2 million CFA francs and the funding of his business plan. The 2nd category will reward the author of the best applied research with 10 million CFA francs, while the 2nd prize in this category will receive an envelope of 2 million CFA francs.

According to Paul Kammogne Fokam, economist and founder of the banking group Afriland First Bank, which tows a dozen companies active in Cameroon and on the African continent, even in Europe and Asia; this award is his contribution to the blossoming of a generation of Africans likely to accompany the dark continent towards excellence. Especially since, he argues, “there is a direct correlation between basic research, applied research and the distribution of wealth in the world.”

In addition, this captain of industry, who maintains that it is now necessary for Africa to “position research as the main activity of economic life”, announced the upcoming launch of a “digital stock exchange for research”.
